I have a 2004 Toyota Corolla. Should I have my Overdrive off when carrying anything of weight (Kayaks)?

As the Overdrive comes on by default, I've never switched it off. However when I'm hauling by Kayaks, and I'm on the highway, I find that the car jumps into another gear as if i've just hit the accelerator. This effect is even more dramatic if on an incline or when driving with the air on.|||no. they don't need that button there on cars, but they just do. only when you tow, you need to take it out of overdrive. and that would be over 1,000 lbs.|||when you hit the overdrive button, it raises the rev's of the car, so it will hold it closer to the cars main horse power band, if you go up hills with the load i would put over drive "on", but if your on the highway with the load, i dont think you would have a problem with the overdrive button off.|||Why not use a trailer?

The single kayak trailer is created for the standard kayak of 12 feet length. Its maximum capacity is about 900lbs. It doesn't require much assembly. As it is made from aluminum, it requires very less maintenance. It has adjustable carrying arms.

There are several manufacturers of kayak trailers such as Trailex, Blue Mountain Outfitters, Magneta, AAA and Castle Craft Multiple. There is a big competition between these manufactures. Kayak trailers are available in various sizes such as single kayak trailer, two place kayak trailer, four place kayak trailer, ten place kayak trailer, nine place kayak trailer and sixteen place kayak trailer
