Are there any laws regarding kayaks after sundown?

i know when i had my boat, you need a light. do you need that when kayaking? of course it's safer to have a light, but do you have to have one by law? can you just have a reflective vest...?|||non powered boat

All vessels should use proper navigation lights. However, non-powered vessels, such as canoes, kayaks, rowboats, and sailboats under 7 meters in length are not required to have lights installed, and may use a flashlight for navigation. The light does not have to be turned on at all times, but should be turned on in time to avoid a collision. (Rule 25)

This is a minimum requirement. Kayaks can also use standard navigation lights for sailboats of red on the port bow showing 112.5 degrees , green on the starboard bow showing 112.5 dgrees and white showing 135 degrees to the rear.

here are two excellent sites that discuss the use of lights on kayaks at night:

hope this helps|||After sundown, ALL boats regardless of type or size are required to have at least a "White" 360 light visible for two miles. This includes a kayak, canoe, rowboat, raft and even a home-made floating piece of junk with a single person onboard to have lit.
